Reduced temperature sensitivity of multicrystalline silicon solar cells with low ingot resistivity

This study presents experimental data on the reduction of temperature sensitivity of multicrystalline silicon solar cells made from low resistivity ingot. The temperature coefficients of solar cells produced from different ingot resistivities are compared, and the advantages of increasing the net doping are explained.

One-Pot Synthesis to Quinone-Based Diaza[3.3]cyclophanes

A simple one-pot synthesis to [3.3]cyclophanes that involves quinone moieties was found. The protocol tolerates a variety of amines that include aliphatic and aromatic structures with different functional groups, such as hydroxy groups, amides, and terminal double and triple bonds. The straightforward synthesis can be performed by a twofold N-alkylation reaction with 2,5-bis(bromomethyl)-3,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone (1). Neither anhydrous nor inert conditions are required. Various amines can be employed without any activating groups, several functionalities at end groups are tolerated, and the cyclophanes generated can be easily modified or embedded into larger molecular architectures. Diastereoselectivity of the Addition of Propargylic Magnesium Reagents to Fluorinated Aromatic Sulfinyl Imines.

The addition of propargylmagnesium bromide to fluorinated aromatic sulfinyl imines gave homopropargyl amines with total regio- and diastereoselection. Complete reversal of diastereoselectivity can be achieved in some cases using coordinating (THF) or noncoordinating (DCM) solvents. Substituted propargylic magnesium reagents have been also tested toward fluorinated aryl sulfinyl imines affording chiral homoallenyl amines with good yields and selectivity control. DFT calculations helped to rationalize the origin of the experimental regio- and diastereoselectivities observed in each case.

Pharmaceuticals and other urban contaminants threaten Amazonian freshwater ecosystems

Abstract Urban areas in the Brazilian Amazon have grown at an unprecedented rate during the last years. About 90% of the wastewater produced by these urban areas are discharged untreated into Amazonian freshwater ecosystems, constituting a potential environmental pathway for pharmaceuticals and other chemicals consumed by modern societies (e.g. psychostimulants, personal-care products, hormones). The distribution of these chemicals into the Amazon River and their potential risks for freshwater biodiversity have not been evaluated so far. The African savannas that many early hominins occupied likely experienced stark seasonality and contained mosaic habitats (i.e., combinations of woodlands, wetlands, grasslands, etc.).
